The choreography and the music were inspired by a
letter from Czar Peter the Great of Russia to his son
Alexis: “If you obey me, I assure you and I
promise, in the name of God, that I will not punish you,
and if you return I will love you more than ever. But if
you do not, I give you as your father my eternal curse;
and as your sovereign, I assure you that I shall find the
means of punishing you.”
